Client-Side OLEing - is it possible?

I would like to use Word as an object on the clients (to do some reporting functions that require formatting junk), without resorting to jscripting is there a way I can invoke and control vbscript on the client-side that uses Word as a server?
 
Any help and guidance would be kindly appreciated.

Is this a too non-specific of a question or is what I'm asking not possible?
