FYI Not PC.

I received an email from rohit.a@zensar.com  (in my gmail account) asking me to write a script for him, not going to happen.
 
It did not come from the forum administrator so I think he just grabbed my email address, anyone else think this is out of line?
 
I checked out zensar.com it's a company that off shores jobs to India. I've had a few jobs go offshore so I'm touchy on the subject.
It really upset me, I sent him a scathing reply and told him not to send email directly to me ever again.
 
This guy asked me to write him a script because he didn't know how.
He did not even want to try to write the script.
He was hired to do a job that he does not know how to do.
It is entirely possible he has replaced someone working in the US or Europe (where ever) who could write the script in a few minutes.
 
My intent of this post is not to upset anyone in the forum who is not from the US or Europe but to show how the work is getting done.
The unskilled worker is asking other people to do their job for them.
I may be odd but I believe musicians deserve to be paid for their creativity (even if it is hip hop).
I also believe programmers should get paid for their creativity.

I have gotten a couple of similar emails and agree with you.  You can easily stop these, go to your profile and uncheck allow others to send me email.  This should not prevent admin or notification emails but I will have to test (Will wait to see what happens when someone replies to this post)

I don't really want to do that because there are people that are really knowledgable and nice that might send an email.

Once in a blue moon I get an email on a script I wrote like 1-2 years ago from someone asking for assistance. I dont mind it since it reminds me of th forums I post on.....(My god so many now). Simplest thing I do if its an excessive request or just irritating to read, is to say. Thanks for the question but please forward your inquiry to (whatever the forum was) .

I agree..within limits. If its something application level I agree. If its like say....300 or so lines of code? I'm less inclined to pay for it or ask for payment. But I guess this is a relative subject.

I am a tester and a developer from India.
 
I know how it hurts being deprived of ones job (one that the person loves to do the most).
 
But is it not a good thing that the under previlaged (who can't code) asking help from the Superstars of scripting?
 
Yes, as TNO said that if it is a complex code or taking lot of your time, you can expect financial gain before parting with your code.
 
As far as I know about this community, if we ask politely... we get loooots of help... (lot more than google)
 
Second thought: Yes, Rohit should have posted it.

Being asked for help and being asked to write a script are two completely different things.

I missed that part. Apologies.
That was wrong on his part.
 
This happens all the time. Rohit must be just out of college and must have been put in a project which require extreme programming knowledge in a language he didn't work with.
 
I don't know what he asked for. But a newcommer don't have a choice in a scenario where thousands are in que to take your place if you fail. Rohit was just saving his skin.

Back in the 1970's if you wanted a job in I/T you started by sweeping the floors and worked your way up.
Here I was fresh out of college and wanted to code I got to sweep floors for 6 months before they would let me
near a key punch machine.
 

 I don't know what he asked for. But a newcommer don't have a choice in a scenario where thousands are in que to take your place if you fail. Rohit was just saving his skin. 
 

 
If you are asking me to belive he didn't have a choice then you don't underestimate my to give you a rasberry :-P
The idea that someon would be so foolish as to say "I didn't have a choice" is stupid.
 
Going to college teaches people how to make "good" choices, he made a BAD choice it's that simple (several bad choices for all it matters).
 
BTW stop the stroking "Superstars of scripting" that and 2 bucks will get you coffee at Starbucks.

Ooo, back in the 70's (early 70's that is) I didn't have to worry about sweeping floors but when my diapar was going to be changed next.......

But I did start out at the "bottom" and work my way up to the position I am currently in.  And I must say that I am glad I did it that way.
