HTA Question Tuesday, December 08, 2009 2:55 AM (permalink)

I've been using HTA's for a while with VBScript only, with EOY freeze coming up in a few days I'm looking for something to fill the next 30 days at work so I don't go crazy doing nothing.

I was at the Library book store in Minneapolis I picked up the Ryno book (JavaScript by David Flanagan) 4th edition for... $3.00
Library book stores are great resources for great books :-)
I thought... I'll re-write all my HTA's but use JavaScript insted of VBScript, then i thought "Can HTA's be written using JavaScript?"

I did some googleing...
Google came up with some links but so many websites are blocked (at the office) I'm having trouble finding examples.
According to one link to the SUN website JavaScript with IE7 fails in HTA's because of the Data Execution Protocol (DEP) on Vista.

I happen to be running IE7 on XP so I think it will work fine, I can turn off DEP 8-O

So that is the question... Can HTA's be written using JavaScript and is there something I need to know that I can't get to a link?
Sam

Interesting Javascript does not have native fill handling for input and output to files.

Kinda reminds me of a tune form the 60's "War what's it good for? absolutly nothing uh-hu..."

Are you really set on HTAs? I use Powershell and .Net forms for everything that I used to use HTAs for.

No I'm not set on HTA's

I need to check to see if we can install powersheel on our XP boxes here at work. I think it would help with some of
the scripts I need to run against the servers. The W2K workstations not so much... I have W7Pro on my personal laptop and have been playing with it, any good books out there?

.Net is a whole different ball of wax I've not even looked at it... Something to keep me busy :-)

We are embarking on a huge upgrade to our systems here so maybe we will get W7E to play with soon.

My favorite PS book is "Powershell in Action". There are a lot of free e-books out there too. I would recommend googling and finding the free e-book version of "Powershell: TFM".

I did find one ebook (pdf) that I could access from the office there are MS refrences I can take a look at as well.
I'll pickup one from the book store, I like having a desk refrence :-)
