I keep telling them...

I'm not a programmer 8-O Just because I save time using VBScript to write small tools the business thinks I can program. Anyone have experence with handling this sort of thing, I really don't want to get in to formal programming. I like writting small bits of code, thinking of thousands of lines of code makes my head spin. And I'm not really that good at it.

I'd say, explain to them the difference between scripting and programming, draw the line there and you will be fine.... To make it more fun, throw in some examples, and they would make a difference from then on....

Tell them that if they expect you to script and program then your salary needs to be doubled.

IM not a programmer either.. soo Whenever i ahve a larger script done. i take a walk into the office of one of our programmers & ask them to trim my code. I almost always get laughed at at first, but when we have commented out on all parts on the actual script. We usually end up as friends, my script was not changed much at all, because sometimes micromanagement is necesarey :P I have actually tried to convert some of my samll scripts into applications. But always end up going back to scripting since its so much more work to update a regular application. Script is not the same as a program in my world.

You can also point out that programmers are not scriptors. A cousin of mine who is a pretty well known VB/VB.Net programmer does not know VBScript. Not saying he couldn't learn it, but he isn't a scripter.
