Just in case any of you are currently, or are planning to in the future, undergo a severe pillaging by that most wonderous of malware packages "Antivirus 2008", let me be the first to point you in the right direction... Get Malwarebytes' Anti-malware application. Once it is installed and updated, let it run a full scan of your system. It will wipe out all of your cookies, BUT it will get rid of the "Antivirus 2008" bug. Superantispyware - which usually does a great job - doesn't touch it. Just the pain-wracked voice of experience hoping to save someone else's sphincter from the violence of malware.

Will add that to my tools. Worked on a friends daughters laptop that had Antivirus 2008 installed, finally gave up and reimaged it. There were other problems too. Malware writers should be dunked into a vat of ticks and left to rot.

Hang them upside down in the vat of ticks. *** I had to buy a Mac for my daughter, I'd imaged her computer 4 times...

just had an experience with a virus... one of the sality family. Infected a doctor's office which was running the latest version of Symantec Corporate with the latest definitions. Their IT guy took home a usb key that had the virus on it by accident, and infected his home computer which was running the latest version of McAfee 2009. Neither piece of software touched the virus, and both were shut down by it. I installed Sunbelt Software's Vipre, and it wiped out the virus with nary a complaint. Just something to keep in mind. www.sunbeltsoftware.com
