The have finally decided that my job goes to India.

I'll have a chance at another postition but in level 2 support.

I just can't get my arms around level 2 again...

That and level 2 needs Perl/Tk scripting, nothing like ending every line of code with ;
If you haven't had any Perl/Tk experence give it a whirl and don't forget to just install all the mods;

      I just saw today, Microfocus has a new COBOL for .NET

      If COBOL comes back I may start looking for a COBOL job ;-)

        Microsoft announced long ago that they intend on supporting many languages with .NET.
        I have heard Fortran and some others as well.

          Now if they would update those languages like the rest of the world is (JScript.NET.....)

            The good news is I have a new job with a large bank, I'll be doing application support, wait for it...     COBOL

            It's a good thing for me.

            I have not written COBOL code for over 10 years so I went out and bought SAM's publishing "Learn COBOL in 24 Hours".

            Believe it or not the new COBOL standard will be 2008 the old being 85/2002. It is .NET enhanced now but it will have
            the ability to do interfaces in COBOL on windows, that is a huge move forward for COBOL.

            The Hello World program was fun it ended with a message box telling me the script was finished.

            It's still picky ;-) but it's good solid mainframe work.

            Sam.

              Congrats!!!

              My old employer started outsourcing everything too and since it was a mortgage company...when the opportunity came along for a new and stable job I took it.

              It sounds like you will be working with something you are familiar with and enjoy which is great.  I wish you plenty of luck and success with your new job.
