How to run Skype from a USB stick Skype is a portable application, which means it can be run from a USB stick on any PC (even if Skype is not installed on the PC). This is useful when you travel and want to use Skype on a computer available to the public, for example, in a hotel, Internet café, library, etc.
How to Install Skype to run from a USB stick: 1 - Download and install Skype on your computer. (or, if you have Skype already installed on your computer, go to step 2)
2 - On your USB drive create a folder called
Skype.
3 - Copy the Skype executable file in that folder.
The location and file name will be this:
C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe 4 - Create a new folder called
Data.
We now generate a file named
skype.bat:
5 - Start the Windows
Notepad.
6 - Copy this line:
Skype.exe / datapath: "Data" / removable 7 - Click on
File / Save as 8 - In the drop-down list:
select All Files.
9 - Name the file like this:
skype.bat
That's it! You are now ready to launch Skype on your USB drive. Just plug it into any PC and click on the file
skype.bat. It will Skype on your USB drive.
You must first recreate your account settings and connection that will be recorded into the Data folder. Once completed each of the first changes will be saved only on your memory stick.
