So many request for free scripts
-
Thursday, August 30, 2007 7:40 AM
I think I figured out why there are so many requests for free scripting. Google If I put in "error 8004100c" (from a recent post) The first hit I get is that post on visualbasicscript.com. If I put in "vbscript forum" visualbasicscript.com is the first hit. It's like the slashdot effect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slashdot_effect Now someone is paying for this forum and I know it's not me and at the moment I don't see a way to donate. Perhaps (for the better scripters out there (not me I'm not that good)) if someone was willing to donate to help support visualbasicscript.com they could get a script written for them... Just a wild idea.

Sorry for revisiting this ancient post, but... I think it'd soon come to the point where the domain, forum software, hosting, and bandwidth woudl be paid up until the early 2050's . possibly within a week. I dunno how many times i would have paid BIG dollars (hundreds at least) to get a piece of code written to make a deadline and be the 'hero' for my client. And once the above are all paid for, it is just a short step to becoming nothing more than another codeforhire site. Personally, I'd be willing to donate just to ensure that the site keeps going. I know a few others would, too. however, I think it'd start to compromise the 'feel' of the site almost immediately if it became a code for hire site... i know that I for one would lose interest really fast. There's my dual-core pennies.

Well I don't think I've ever used it (can't remember anyway) but I like the idea of being able to say "You get what you pay for!" when I really screw something up.

Just to chime in here, intesting site TNO, not sure if that would be a way to go but interesting. And I agree with DS that doing anytype of code-for-hire stuff would change the feel of the site. More people would withhold the code so they could get paid and the free flow would stop. I have been here since 2003 and have learned a ton and that would not happen for new scripters. With that said, I do not think the mysterious AdminKoe has any plans for the switch. Edit: Oh yeah, if there was a donate button I would donate. But, putting up a donate button can also change the "feel" of a site and some people may not post their questions.
