Since Microsoft is set on building their own standards for Web scripting and God knows what else, client side applications are stuck in a rut. HTML Applications (*.hta) rely on the Internet explorer browser and its related engines (Which haven't been significantly updated since 2001). That means that many of the standards set in place by the W3C currently are not available for use. Examples include: JavaScript versions above 1.3 (Which I believe is at 1.6 now) CSS-3 SVG (Plug-in required) E4X (So far there is no indication for of E4X support in Internet Explorer 7.) and possibly others. In order to use these technologies at all, you would most likely use FireFox. The problem is Microsoft won the HTML Application Patent. So what can we do? Behold, The Mozilla ActiveX control: http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/control.htm This control will make it easier for client side Html Applications to get the better of both worlds. Direct Animation Filters+VML in the same page as CSS-3+E4X. If you have any criticisms .....
