Ultra edit 12. Has a really nice interface, plus collapsible subs and functions. I love being able to customize the dictionary on how it understands the code. It even understands Visual Studio .NET 2005 stuff. I will give primal script a try also, it sounds nice. The collapsible region is one thing Ultra Edit 12 lacks. Peace out.....

I use PrimalScript 2007 mostly, ASE for the script packager (for some reason PrimalScript 2007 will not work with my custom icons), and Notepad++ for anything other than VBScript or batch files (I have Linux servers in addition to my Windows servers, so I do a lot of shell scripting and PERL writing). Truth be told, I probably use Notepad++ more than any other piece of software (it's so much better than regular notepad). Work pays for PrimalScript and ASE, and Notepad++ was free, so that is pretty much what I learned on (as a bonus there is a portable version available at portableapps.com). - Joe

O wouldn't hold my breath for a good VBS editor from MS. VBS isn't going away for many years to come but I suspect that anything new that MS does will focus on Powershell.

I agree that I have never really been happy with the PrimalScript UI. Right now though, the enterprise collaboration functionality trumps my dislike with the UI. I am going to give VbsEdit another look though and see if I can force it to work in a fashion that support team collaboration the way that I want.

It's a shame. VbsEdit seems like a much cleaner program that I think I would like better than PrimalScript. Unfortunately I have hit a show stopper. There is a character limit on snippet size. This seems like a silly limitation that would be relatively simple to overcome. For the time being I will just send an email to Adersoft explaining my requirements and if they fix it in the future I would really like to give it another try.

Also not show stoppers, but features that I would love to see in VbsEdit: - The ability to point to a snippets library on the network so that a standard set of snippets could be used by all the people in a shop.
- Seamless CVS interface with *shudder* Visual Source Safe or better yet SVN.

I will also say that one other advantage PrimalScript has over VbsEdit is support for multiple languages. I realize that this is not the focus of VbsEdit so it may not be a fair comparison, but I routinely edit VBS, Perl, Powershell, HTML, and XML files. Sometimes all of those in the same day. The ability to have all these open in one editor is quite handy.
