Hi guys.

I am not sure if it was this site or somewhere else but i saw a away of dynamically changing Windows XP Computer description field with the name of the logged on user.

Does anyone know how to do this with vbscript as i thought it was very cool and as i am building our XP desktop i think my helpdesk guys could really benifit from that kind of info

Put the following in a login script and it will change the description.  (or do it remotely and enter in the computer name)

Hi guys.

Ok i have added to the code from above to get the username of the person logged onto the machine.

What i would like to do is add to the description what VLAN they are on

Does anyone know how i can query for this information?

I did do that but the only post on VLAN's is this one.


I have been searching about all over the place but cant seem to find anything that will help me.

When you say "by vlan" how would you manually determine this?

Hello mate. Well in our DHCP scope if you are say

10.19.0.10 to 10.19.0.255 then your VLAN19 Lower Ground Floor

10.20.0.10 to 10.20.0.255 then your VLAN20 Ground Floor

etc etc

I am not familiar with VLANs. How are they created? Where are the boundaries defined? How would the computer be aware of the boundaries?
