For all practical purposes this is "unavoidable" and for security reasons should remain that way.

Exactly what TNO says, an HTA is less restrictive with it's security then HTM(L) pages. So if IE would let an HTA behave like an HTM(L) page, the risk will be that there could be code programmed in the HTA that could destroy your PC (think in terms of the ILOVEYOU virus) Quote from MSDN: "As fully trusted applications, HTAs carry out actions that Internet Explorer would never permit in a Web page" Please read this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/author/hta/overview/htaoverview.asp Especially the Chapter called: The Power of Trust: HTAs and Security
