The hard work?  What do you call all those lines of code I've already gotten from you?

Unfortunately, it looks like I can't upload until I've got at least 30 posts on the forum, and I'd better not spam the forum just to get my 30 posts in.  I'll have to try and muddle through using your excellent tutoring.  For the time being, however, I'd better set this aside and try to get some work done, or I'll be out of a job.  I'll get back on this tonight, at home, hopefully.  Thanks for all of the help !!  It must be getting late there for you, anyway.  Thanks, again.

Hi sbubendorf,

the code was fun; the hard work starts if it doesn't work as expected!

Thank you very much for your interest/patience/stamina. I really enjoy
working with you on this problem. I wish you success with your work;
don't feel obliged to do anything that would interfere with your important
tasks. I will be here tomorrow or during the weekend, when and if you
feel like putting a nail thru these .ncr files.

Thanks again & good night!

ehvbs

I give up!  I put quite a bit of time into adjusting the start location and number of characters in the Mid statements, but the program seems to stop at this line every time :
   oRS.Fields( "dblY" ).Value = CDbl( Trim( Mid( sLine, 15, 10 ) ) )
I don't know what else to try for now.  I'm going to file the program for future reference.  It has all kinds of concepts that are new to me and over my head in terms of skill level and understanding.  It'll probably make more sense to me a few months down the line.  At that time, I 'll probably take a quick look and see some obvious error in something that I did in using the program or in trouble-shooting it.  A quick little change at that time will probably have it up and running in minutes, whereas I could put many more days into it at this point in time and make no more headway.

Thank you very much for all of your help and for the code that you provided!  (I still expect to use your code in place of my crude example at some point in time, if you will allow me to do so.)

Hi sbubendorf,

I'm very sorry for causing you a frustating experience. I gambled on posting a complete
(working) script and discussing the details on that basis, and lost. I understand and respect
your decision to postpone dealing with my code. But I sincerely hope we will pick up this
discussion somewhere in the future.

Regards

ehvbs

P.S. Of course you may use the code as you want to; consider it as open source/public domain.

It is frustrating that I can't get the script to work after you put so much effort and expertise into it.  If it was a script which I started, I would be compelled to stay with it until I got it.  I've had many a sleepless night on other projects because I can't put them aside until I've got them working.  My projects, however, were chosen to match the current level of my abilities, and to stretch them just a bit, perhaps.  There is so much in your code that is so far beyond my present level of ability, that I can't make that commitment, as I might to complete some of my own code.  I still feel a little inadequate that I can't provide enough to this project to complete or troubleshoot the excellent and lengthy code which you provided me.

I believe it will come, at some time in the future, though.  I appreciate your willingness to come back to this at some future time with me.

Oh, I got a little off track.  I started to say it is frustrating, but, I've learned a lot, and I've got an excellent example for future reference.  And the best part of having undertaken this project and having sought help on this forum is the "good", "grateful", "appreciative", "sense of goodness in others", feelings (I don't know how to adequately describe it), that I always get when someone like yourself expends so much effort to help someone half way around the world.  I get a lot of similar forum help with Autolisp programming that I do on a much more regular basis, and occassionally with Excel.  I even have the opportunity with the AutoLisp, occassionally, to provide some help to others.  I always seem to find more help and encouragement in these online forums than I find from those I actually see and work with on a daily basis, even.

Thanks again !!!!!
