Google Maps as you know lets you create a route on a map and then save it as driving directions.
This script will take that one step further and create a file that you can load onto your Tomtom GPS.

Create a new file on your computer called GM2ITN.HTA and paste the attached code into it.
Usage instructions are displayed in script.
Save the itinerary file it creates on your PDA here \Program Files\Navigator\itn

Enjoy.

Hi Meg:

I discovered your conversion program GM2ITN.HTA and look forward to employing it to convert those Google Maps routes to my TomTom's itinerary *.itn files.

At this point I'm still trying to successfully convert... I continue to receive the "URL to ITN" error message prompting me to re-paste the URL, always with the same result.

Your abbreviated instructions ask that one slightly move the start and end points to facilitate capture of the GPS position. Are you suggesting I move the bullet point slightly, or the Start & End colored markers?

Any other tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

All The Best

Tom G, Sr.

I have checked the script and it still works. i.e. Google have not changed their code back end.

Get your driving directions the normal way by typing the start and end address. Drag the route line to go the way that you want to go, i.e. your favourite way or via certain waypoints.

Pick up and move the little green markers A and X(for simple two stop routes only A and B) that represent the stat and finish points a tiny amount. This way, when you click on link to this page , the URL that you copy and paste into my program will have GPS coordinates (latitude and Longitude) associated with the start and finish points rather than just the plain txt address you typed in originally when you asked for driving directions.

Copy and paste my examples into a web broswer to get a reverse look at the page I coped and pasted the URL from. Notice the start and end address fields show latitude and Longitude values next to the addresses.

Hope this makes it clearer.

Love your converter as I am constantly in the car using GPS.  The google output however seems different than your examples.  I am in the US.  Anyway, it is not picking up the street on the display.  Here is an example:

Thanks for the heads up azmogul. You are right, it seems address formats are different in your city. I was tossing up whether to fix this or not since now TomTom themselves have taken the idea and have embedded this feature in their TomTom Home program. But they are only supporting the newest versions of TomTom, mine does version6, Ha.

Anyway I decided to update my clean function to work with your city and credit you in the code comments, so thankyou again.

I don't seem to be able to edit my original post so for all new downloads, download this version please :)

EDIT: I added a tutorial video into the script. If anyone has problems with it delete the following lines out of the code:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KPOOWvP_dd8&fs=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KPOOWvP_dd8&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Meg,

Thank you so much for updating the script.  I am out in the car daily and this will save me a tremendous amount of time in preparing my day.
