I have created a script that queries a PC for the build version of MS Office.

I have ran locally on my PC and works fine but when running and connecting to remote PC's I get an error message

ActiveX components can't create object : 'Word.Application'

Now info I've found on the web says that either I have no rights (connecting as Domain Admin) or Office is not installed (Which I know it is)

Am I missing something *really* obvious?

Any pointers much appreciated. :)

Edited to add : I run this from a DOS box. Otherwise be prepared for triple pop-up boxes :)

Hhhhm, interesting. Only get that error on PC's that are running Office 2003 SP2.  (Without SP2 returns build of 11.0.5604)

Not sure why it's only happening on SP2 machines?

I wonder if there were security changes in SP2.

Maybe you should just check the registry.

I was going to do this originally but read somewhere that not as reliable as written in different parts of the registry?

Where is best in reg? I have checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\ProductVersion and this returns (11.0.7969.0) which is different to the build I get when I do a Help - About from office application I get build 6568?

Mucho Confusedo
